New Fairfield Center, at the intersection of Routes 37 & 39, is the heart of this residential community. Convenient businesses are centrally located there, as is its town hall, library, & post office. New Fairfield borders Ball Pond, Squantz Pond, and the largest manmade lake east of the Mississippi River, Candlewood Lake. In 1926 Connecticut Light & Power created the lake to use its water to produce electricity. The lake's beauty and charm have drawn vacationers to New Fairfield, mainly from New York, ever since.
